About

Teeth.

I put my teeth on here because in addition to my diverse skill set, you also get this beautiful smile with everything you do.

Just kidding.

I put it on here because they inspire me, and illustrate one of my cardinal design beliefs.

As you might have noticed in my designs, I am incredibly inspired by raw materials, natural textures and bio mimicry. I always have been particularly fascinated with the skeletal structure. But also, the teeth are part of the skeletal structure, the framework of the body’s design.

My father began his career as a framing carpenter. I have been around blueprints and grew up on job-sites, where he defined the framework of the architecture since I can remember. My mother is a dentist. As a little girl, I spent hours poring over x-rays in her office, looking at peoples’ mouths, then looking over her shoulder in the office chair. These blueprints and x-rays fascinated me.

These diagrams created something tangible out of an idea.

They unveiled the hidden structure behind the facade.

Similarly, when I look at design, I start at the framework. For me the frame is the root problem, the target market, the research, the planning, the initial sketches, the true beginning. Starting from this informed place, the design begins to materialize. The form following the function of the task it must complete, the problem it must solve. In other words, you must start with a solid frame before you can begin anything else.

My sketches are the blue prints and x-rays of design. This is where the essence of the design comes to life.

So, these are my teeth. My inspiration. My background.
