Miss Shanda Draper was starting a small company that sells handmade retail goods such as jewelry, purses and home decor. The merchandise is fashioned out of recycled barn items such as horse tack and reclaimed wood. She was in need of a logo for packaging, tags and general branding. She wanted to go with something trendy, western and rustic.

I started by going to the books. I often gather inspiration from vintage images.

I also drew a lot of inspiration from the line work in the images for my choices in typeface. Due to a miscommunication, I thought that she wanted a ‘trowel’ instead of a ‘rowel’ in the logo. These are my first few proofs.

After we got the rowel trowel confusion sorted out, I moved on to developing some different icons for the logo.

She loved what I came up with, and from there we made the final decision. To go along with the recycled feel of the merchandise, I suggested to print the logo on a warm and textured paper. The Neenah Desert Storm paper is also made from recycled materials and manufactured sustainably.

Shanda employs the logo, branding her wares with pride. Be sure to check out her store on Etsy or Facebook.
