MAP FACES
- Personal Portrait : conceptual design and assembly
- Design under Heather Szatmary, Color Theory SCAD Savannah GA
The idea behind this project was to create a personal portrait that could illuminate something more about a person that just their physical characteristics.
First I start by editing the photo of the person I choose do do the face of. I rasterize it so to be able to see the different variations of shades and shadows in the face better. Then I select maps from the geographical location from where the person is from. This make the portrait much more personal.
I usually draw from two to four maps of the same region. Sometimes I use maps of weather patterns, or topographical maps. The maps are then color corrected and edited so I have various shades and colors to sculpt the face from. I start building from the cheek bones, and glue layers to build the portrait.
Sometimes the layers of the face line up to form amazing patterns of their own, often making a 3 dimensional topographical map of the person’s face. This is just a unique side effect of the collage.
More faces to come.
